Publishing Sermons

BOTH/AND Client Guide

Come and See stores sermons as a dedicated content type. This keeps sermon pages consistent and allows visitors to browse sermons by information such as speaker, service, series, or topic.

Information to Gather

  • Sermon title.
  • Sermon date—required.
  • Speaker.
  • Service.
  • Series, when applicable.
  • Topic, when applicable.
  • Video URL, when available.
  • Audio or podcast URL, when available.
  • Transcript text or an external transcript URL, when available.
  • Any short introduction or supporting content.

Add a Sermon

  1. Open Sermons.
  2. Select Add New.
  3. Enter a clear title.
  4. Add the sermon date. A sermon should not be published without its date.
  5. Select or add the appropriate Speaker, Service, Series, and Topic terms.
  6. Add the approved video URL, audio/podcast URL, or external transcript URL.
  7. Add transcript text or other sermon content in the main editor when appropriate.
  8. Preview the sermon.
  9. Publish and inspect the public sermon page.

Use Categories Consistently

Before creating a new Speaker, Service, Series, or Topic, check whether the correct one already exists. Small spelling differences create duplicate archives and make sermons harder to find.

Examples:

  • Do not create both “Fr. John” and “Father John” for the same person.
  • Do not create both “Divine Liturgy” and “Liturgy” unless they intentionally mean different things.
  • Use Topics for useful recurring subjects, not every word mentioned in a sermon.

Media Guidance

  • Use a stable public URL supplied by the approved video, podcast, or media host.
  • Do not upload audio or video files directly to WordPress. Direct uploads are prohibited; use an approved external media host.
  • Confirm that the parish has permission to publish the recording.
  • Test the video or audio on the public sermon page.
  • If the transcript is written directly in the sermon content, leave the external transcript URL empty.

Final Check

  • ☐ Sermon date is present and correct.
  • ☐ Speaker, Service, Series, and Topic entries are consistent.
  • ☐ Media links work publicly.
  • ☐ The title is understandable outside the parish.
  • ☐ The sermon appears in the correct archive order.
  • ☐ The page works on a phone.
